Overview
Storytime Spinner ("we," "our," or "the Service") is an AI-powered bedtime story generator that parents and guardians use to create stories for their children, on our website (storytimespinner.com) and in our Android app. We are committed to protecting the privacy of our users and their families. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
Information We Collect
Account Information: When you register we collect your email address, your name, and either a password (stored only as a secure bcrypt hash) or, if you sign in with Google, your Google account ID, name and email address as provided by Google.
Your Stories: Each story you create is saved to My Stories so you can read or replay it later. We store its title and text, the options you chose (age range, theme, length, hero and sidekick names, lesson, language) and, if you had it narrated, its audio file. You can delete any story at any time, or delete your whole account (see below).
Purchases: We record your credit balance and each purchase (credits, amount and the payment provider's order or session ID). Card and payment details are handled entirely by Stripe (website) or Google Play (Android app); we never see or store them.
Usage and Security Data: We record how many stories you create and how many credits they use, and, with each sign-in session, your IP address and browser or device type, to run the Service and protect accounts. Our servers also keep standard technical logs.
Reports and Messages: If you report a story or contact us, we receive what you send, plus your email address if you are signed in.
Website Only: Ad Measurement and Support Chat
Our website uses the Google tag (Google Ads) to measure visits that come from our ads; it uses cookies and is governed by Google's privacy policy. The website also offers an AI support chat (provided by AISupportForge) that processes the messages you type into it. Neither is used in our Android app.
Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. Accounts are for parents and guardians.
- The Android app does not use advertising IDs, analytics or ads.
- We do not sell or rent your personal information.
- We do not use your data to train AI models.
How We Use Your Information
- Authentication: to sign you in and keep your account secure.
- Story Generation: the options you choose are sent to our AI writing service to write your story, and the story text to our text-to-speech services to narrate it.
- Credits and Purchases: to manage your balance and credit your purchases.
- Service Communication: to send service emails such as email verification.
- Safety: to review stories that users report.
Service Providers
We use these providers to run the Service. They process data only to provide their service to us:
- DeepSeek: writes the story text from the options you choose. No account information is sent.
- Google Cloud and Inworld AI: convert story text into narrated audio. Only the story text is sent.
- Stripe: processes payments on the website.
- Google Play: processes purchases in the Android app.
- Google Sign-In: if you choose to sign in with Google.
Data Security
We protect your data with:
- HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
- Secure password hashing (bcrypt)
- Session-based authentication with secure tokens
- Server-side access controls
Children's Privacy (COPPA)
Storytime Spinner is designed for parents and guardians to create stories for their children; accounts must be created by an adult, and the Android app is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13.
Story options such as character names and age ranges are used to write the story and are saved with it in your account; they are not used to identify any real child. Please avoid entering a child's full name or other identifying details.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your account data and stories at any time through the Service
- Delete any saved story from My Stories
- Delete your account and all of its data at any time, in the app or on the website at storytimespinner.com/delete-account.html, or by emailing us
- Opt out of non-essential communications
Data Retention
Account data and saved stories are kept while your account is active. Audio for narration that is not attached to a saved story is deleted within about 30 minutes. When you delete your account, your account, saved stories and their audio, credits and our purchase records are permanently deleted straight away; Stripe and Google Play keep their own payment records as the law requires, and routine server logs expire on their own.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
